Frequently Asked Traffic School Questions

I was pulled over recently and just got my ticket in the mail. What do I do?

When you receive a ticket, the first thing you should do is decide whether or not to contest it. If you win, you won't pay anything, and neither will your insurance premiums go up. However, fighting a ticket is hard, and you'll need good evidence to prove your case. If you don't want to contest your ticket, then you should pay it as soon as possible. You can pay a ticket on your court's website, over the phone, or in person. After that, you should check if you're eligible to take traffic school. This can help you save money in the long run!

Does traffic school benefit me if I got a speeding ticket?

It sure does! Usually, a speeding ticket puts one point on your record. This point can lead to increases in your insurance premiums. Traffic school removes one point from your driving record. Therefore, going to traffic school saves you money on your insurance premiums. It'll save you a lot of money over the next few years!

How do I figure out how long I have before my traffic school certificate is due to California?

Your traffic ticket should have a due date on it if you're eligible for traffic school. You have to submit your certificate of completion to the state before that date. If you don't know where your traffic ticket is but you know you can take traffic school, you can assume that your due date is 60 days after you got your ticket.

Is there a difference between online and in-person traffic school?

The courts don't distinguish between online and in-person traffic schools when it comes to their records. In that sense, there's no difference between online and in-person. However, in terms of student experience, you can't beat the freedom and flexibility that come with online traffic school. If you go to in-person traffic school, you won't be able to pace yourself as you want. On top of that, the test will likely be harder. With online traffic school, you can set your own pace, breeze past your final, and report your passing instantly!

How long does online traffic school take to complete?

You have to spend a minimum of eight hours on our online traffic school course. We have timers set up on every page that ensure you spend at least the minimum amount of time on each one. You can spend more time on the course if you like, as long as you complete it before your due date.</

How many points can I remove from my driving record in California?

Traffic school removes one point from your driving record, and you can only take it once every 18 months. After 18 months, you're welcome to take traffic school again for a different infraction. However, you can only remove one point every 18 months.

How long is the California traffic school final exam?

The final exam is 25 questions long, and you'll have 60 minutes to complete it. The questions are multiple choice. You'll only need to get 18 of the questions right, so if you're strapped for time, make sure to focus on getting at least 18 correct; you don't need to get 100%.

I’m worried about failing the final exam. Will I be able to retake it if I do fail?

Yes! We offer one retake on our final exam, though we don't think you'll need it. If you do wind up retaking the exam, you'll have 25 new questions, and you'll need to get 18 correct to pass. If you fail a second time, unfortunately, you won't be able to attempt again, so be careful on the second test!

How long does it take before the court receives my results?

It depends on what kind of traffic school you take. If you take traffic school in person, you're at the mercy of your proctor. They will hopefully submit your completion certificate quickly, but there's no guarantee. However, if you do your traffic school online with us, we'll submit your certificate automatically and instantly. That way, you'll know your results will get in on time!
